The Ered Luin, also known as the Blue Mountains, is a mountain range in the far west of Eriador. The mountains are home to the dwarves descended from the exiled king Thráin II and the elves settled along the shores of the river Lune. The mighty dwarf settlement Thorin's Gate is currently the main attraction of the area, being the halls established by Thráin and his son Thorin Oakenshield, serving as their new kingdom after being exiled from the Lonely Mountain by the fierce dragon, Smaug.
